Thoughts of Today

Last night we had a family movie night. It was fun, but there was one problem. It drives me crazy when my brother/sister or dad are talking while we are watching the movie. I always feel like I'm going to miss an important part.

One movie I totally didn't mind that they were talking in, was James Bond "Quantum of the Solace", it was sooooo boring, I didn't think there was any story in the first place, only a bunch of people fighting and killing each other. The only good thing about it is the song "Another Way To Die" by Jack White and Alicia Keys. I love it, it's great and the beat is fun, full of Action. The bond movie before that, "Casino Royal" was really good. I enjoyed watching it.

Well, my best friend and I want to go to study abroad, either to Australia or to the UK. Since we are from an Arab country we need to take IELTS "International English Language Testing System", the minimum mark is 5.5 out of 9 and we also have to do a foundation year before we can enroll at a University. I already did the IELTS test and I scored a high mark so I'm set, I just have to send off my applications. My best friend is doing hers today. I hope she gets the mark required. We really want to go together. It has been our dream to study abroad together for the past 2 years. I really hope we can, that would be a blast. We are going to send off our applications in the next few weeks. I'll keep you posted.

More and more Arabs are going to study abroad. Mostly guys, but the girls are catching up. Last year I saw something that I still think of whenever I go to the air-port or I'm working on my plans to study abroad. I saw this girl at the airport, she was hugging her parents and she was crying really badly. I heard her mom telling her to take care of herself and work hard at university, while she was crying even harder than her daughter. It was heart-breaking and cute at the same time. I remember that I turned around and looked at my mom and said "I want to study abroad but when I'm leaving you're not allowed to cry".

I hope I didn't give you the wrong impression that I'm too weak to study abroad or that I'm such a baby. I really want to go to study abroad, and I know that I'm strong enough and I can take care of myself. The thing is that here (Bahrain or the Arab countries in general) kids are stuck to their parents, not because they want to but because they have to. For example, there is no way to go out unless your parents take you, because here we teens can't just take a cab, bus or train (we don't have trains) and just simply go, it's just not done here. So you see, until we are 18 years old, we're pretty much stuck and dependent on our parents. So to study abroad is harder for us, because everything is new, I mean with everything really absolutely everything, even cleaning, households here have maids who do this. So studying abroad is a chance for us (my best friend and I ) to really grow up.
